Description    Deutsch  ·  English

Start your cache hunt at the parking place for the Bärenschützklamm.
There are several possible ascents to the cache location. Either go up through the Bärenschützklamm or the 'Prügelweg' to the 'Guter Hirte' inn. The nicest approach is in my opinion, the direct ascent over the ridge of the Schwaigerkamm (the terrain-rating rates this approach). This ascent isn´t too difficult (max. UIAA I-II), has nice rocks with loads of handles and footholds and offers some unique views into the gorge and the surrounding area. The other approaches are rated 3* for terrain.
Since there are no marked paths to the entrypoint of the Schwaigerkamm use these two waypoints to find your way:

Clearing above the 'Weisse Wand':
N 47° 20.638
E 15° 23.585

Short iron rope that marks the beginning of the Schwaigerkamm:
N 47° 20.606
E 15° 23.828

The coordinates don´t lead you directly to the cache. Insstead they point to an area with three cave-entries that all lead to the same cave. There´s a narrow slot, a small portal and a big portal which looks out into the gorge.
The cache is hidden near the small portal (inside of the cave). A pocketlight isn´t necesairy just for the cache.

Time needed for the cache: 2.5 - 4h (3 km, 700 hm) Sturdy footwear is recommended for all approaches.

Coole Sache!

As the weather forecast was so nice for today, I decided yesterday evening to go for this cache today which is the closest to my home which I feel able to today on my own.

Since the weather was indeed nice, I decided to have a longer walk. I parked my car at one of the parking lots of the Bärenschützklamm in Mixnitz and went up through the gorge (Bärenschützklamm) until the inn Guter Hirte. In retrospect it was not a very good idea to take the way through the gorge since there were that many people today. At some points I really got nervous because some people in front of me were that slow and stopped walking so often. It was hard to overtake them.

I recommend to everyone who wishes to do this cache on a sunny Sunday or holiday, to either approach the cache
via the Schwaigerkamm (I am unfortunately too clumsy for that variant), or to access the cache directly from the Prügelweg (and refrain from having a longer walk).

From the inn Guter Hirte I took the Prügelweg downwards. Before I came close to what suspected to be the Schwaigerkamm (which was a correct guess), I met a group of hikers who were searching for the way to the Bärenschützklamm. They came from the Teichalm and had taken the wrong way at the inn. I explained them various alternatives and told them that it would not be that recommendable today anyway to descend via the Bärenschützklamm (at least not around noon) .

I then found a surprisingly comfortable way leading to the coordinates. I first found what turned out to be the narrow slot. I was a bit confused because I thought that the other entries should be nearby and there the terrain was not that easy. It is not easy for me to estimate what 3* terrain in gebu's rating might be. Finally, I found the right entry, entered the cave and then also could see the large portal.
I found the cache after a short search. I was glad, however, that I had taken a small torch with me. It was easier this way to rehide the cache in a reasonable way.

After finding the cache, I had a short break and then went back to the Prügelweg and completed the loop to the entrance of the gorge. From there I went back to my car. On this part of my walk there were fortunately much less people than in the gorge.

It was a nice day - though a bit warm at once with no chances for getting used to the warm temperatures. It seems that there is no spring this year. The vegetation is well behind this year. I came across a cherry tree in blossom on my way down the Prügelweg.

Thanks, gebu for another nice cache, and even one that is within my reach. Now it is Cezanne-certified - so feel free to go for it even if you are not an experienced hiker. The approach via the Prügelweg (and not taking the steepest ascent path) is in my opinion even easier than 3* (probably 2.5* at least when the ground is dry).

I completed the full tour in less than 4 hours (including breaks and the time I invested into giving recommendations to the group of hikers who had lost their way).

I regret very much that Alice was not with me (It was my 150-th cache). She would have really enjoyed the location around the cache. The views down to the gorge are really impressive, and Alice likes caves very much. She would for sure have had a closer look at the other parts of the cave where no cache can be found.
