Wölkerkogel

Uii, den hab ich ja ganz vergessen zu loggen. Zusammen mit Dan anno dazumal gefunden

Nach der gestrigen Wanderung wollte ich mit meinen Weg heute von weitem anschaun, und der Wölkerkogel eignet sich dazu ja optimal.

Bei Kaiserwetter hab ich also kurzerhand den Papa eingepackt, und wir sind zur "Wölkertmiaz". Für das geniessen der Ausicht hab ich mir mehr Zeit genommen als zur Cachesuche. Die Dose hat dann der Papa gefunden ;-)

Zusammen mit Topolino1 gefunden. Am Weg vom Gaberl hat es geregnet. Da sind wir erstmal im Alten Almhaus auf eine Jause eingekehrt. Dann, nachdem es aufhörte, haben wir mit der Suche begonnen. Es muggelte , da warteten wir ein wenig. Dann relativ schnell gefunden. Beim Logbuch bin ich schon bei der letzten Seite angekommen. Da gehen sich nur mehr einige Einträge aus. Bitte wechseln! Sehr schöne Gegend! Aber dann kam Nebel auf (Sichtweite ca. 30m), aber dank Wegpunkte am GPSr kein Problem.

Als Draufgabe zu "(motor) biking in Styria (4)", hab ich diesen kleinen Spaziergang (wohl von der erwähnten Alternative aus) gemacht.

Cache 4/6 on todays cachetour together with eTtt.
As it was raining close to the cache location we took the drive-in approach up to the "Altes Almhaus". Fortunately it didn't rain there, so we quickly went up to log this cache. Found within seconds. TNLN.

Also gerade für uns Wiener ein phänomenaler Platz!! Geniale Weitsicht und überhaupt ein wunderschöner Ort!!!

My second cache today. I walked over to this cache from the Gaberl cache. Fortunately, most of the time it is possible to avoid having to walk along the street which leads to the hut "Altes Almhaus". There is quite some traffic on a holiday like today with nice weather. A group of hikers whose age I estimated to lie above 60 years complained that only the old people are walking and the young people drive over to the hut.

I was quite astonished about two very large wind-mills which I met about 1 km after the parking lot. They do not fit into the landscape and the sort of street which has been built to transport all the stuff for setting up the wind-mills to the location, looks very ugly.

When I arrived at the Woelkerkogel, I was somewhat shocked at the first moment since I realized that a mountain mass was going on there - I could have guessed that in advance since the statue is devoted to the Holy Mary and today is August 15. (I appear to be talented in visiting caches on badly suited days like the cache around the castle Oberkapfenberg on the weekend where a medieval knight festival takes place and the Teichalm on the day of the Almenlandlauf etc). On the other hand, I would not have expected a mass to start that late. Fortunately, the mass was close to its end - so I made a short break and enjoyed the nice view. At the end of the mass, a benediction of herbs took place. Thereafter three women sang some songs and one half of the people stayed there and listed while the others already left. In this situation I managed to get to the target area without arising too much attention. Fortunately, the people present in the area where busy with their own matters so I managed to get out the cache and hide it quickly in my knapsack. Then I logged and in another period where noone was looking to the place where I was sitting, I could rehide the cache quickly. I would have prefered a less-exposed place. Among the ones very close to the statue, the chosen place is, however, one of the best as the place can also serve as a place for having a rest and enjoying the view.

The cache container has a crack on the bottom side. The contents is still in good condition, but I would recommend to exchange the container before the Winter. Unfortunately, I had nothing with me with which I could have improved the situation - the only thing I could have offered, a protective bag for the container was already there.

Thanks for hiding the cache at this very nice place. I enjoyed the view to the neighbouring summits very much. It was my first visit to the Woelkerkogel. To my shame I have to admit that this probably also my first visit to the area around the "Altes Almhaus". I cannot recall having been there before, but maybe I just forgot it. In any case it must have been long ago.

Also das war der schönste cache des heutigen Tages, das vorherrschende Traumwetter hat ihn dazu gemacht, ein kleines "Lüfterl" gabs auch, somit war es Temperaturmäßig ganz optimal. Auf dem Weg zum cache bestaunten wir die Vegetation. Mit den Muggels vor Ort gabs kein Problem, waren alle entweder mit Sonne-liegen oder Aussicht-bestaunen beschäftigt.
