Inside the castle ruin

Visit to the Grünenberg Ruins

Located on the Schlossberg in Melchnau are the castle ruins of Grünenberg and Langenstein. It is an extensive castle complex at the focal point of medieval nobility in the Oberaargau. The castle was mainly used from 1100 - 1300. In 1480, it was purchased by Bern and slowly fell into disrepair. Archaeological excavations took place in the 20th century, as well as work to preserve the ruin.

Today, during a visit, in addition to the remains of the walls, the tiled floor of the chapel and the sod well are particularly noticeable. There is also a fireplace for barbecuing and space for a picnic.

Further information can be found on site on the various panels and on Wikipedia.

Arrival

Take bus 51e to the "Melchnau, Oberdorf" stop. From there, it's a short but steep walk straight up, or a slightly longer walk around on developed roads. Pay attention to the waypoints.

NFC-Cache

This cache is an NFC cache. NFC stands for "Near Field Communication" and describes a radio technology over a very short distance (normally a few centimeters). At the coordinates, you will find an NFC tag instead of a can. This is a small sticker with a microchip and an antenna. Contact can be made with the tag using a device that supports NFC. Many current smartphones have the appropriate capability. In this case, the smartphone is brought close to the tag, the tag receives power from the smartphone and a short data exchange takes place.
You can find more details about NFC on Wikipedia.

Logging this NFC Cache

With this NFC cache, you will find the log password stored on the NFC tag. As soon as you have this, you can log the cache online. You don't have to sign in on site. Also attach a personal photo from inside the castle to your online log.

App

If you are using an Android device, I recommend the app NFC Tool for this cache. However, various other NFC apps also work. But make sure that they can read not only links (web addresses).

And now

I wish you a nice hike or otherwise a great trip to the castle ruins.
