Kreuzberg (Patch)

This cache requires less than 2 km walking but with some elevations. The cemetery is closed at night, and dogs are not allowed.

Park at the above coordinates. The building is the benedictine abbey Maria-Hilf. At this location the Roman soldiers Cassius and Florentius were killed for their Christian belief.

At N 50°43.111, E 7°04.703 is a plate for the remembrance of other people, who were also killed for their religious belief. The years on the plate give the values for ABCD / ABCE.

Moving uphill, you'll reach the Poppelsdorf cemetery. Several professors and other well-known people are buried here. You should find five tombs - either look at the map at the entrance, or follow the coordinates:

1) Otto Renois (50°43.(A-D)A(A-D) 7°04.(B-D)(D+E)B). The communist city councellor was killed by the Nazis "on the run". His wife Margarethe died in 198F.

2) Wolfgang Paul (50°43.(A-D)(A-D)C 7°04.B(B-A)C). The professor of physics got the Nobel prize in 1989 for the "Paul-Falle" (Paul trap), used for keeping nuclei, together with Hans G. Dehmelt and Norman F. Ramsey. His right neighbour Karl was born in 18G1.

3) Friedrich August Kekule (50°43.(A-D)B(C-A) 7°05.(A-D)C(C+A)). As professor in Gent he found in 1865 the structure of benzene; since 1867 he teached in Bonn. His right neighbour Käthe died in 189H.

4) Felix Hausdorff (50°43.(A-D)EC 7°04.B(A-D)(A-D)). The professor of mathematics is one of the founders of modern topology. As a jew he lost his academical status in 1935 nad killed himself together with his wife and his sister-in-law in 1942. The sister-in-law Edith was bor in 188I.

5) Friedrich Soennecken (50°43.(A-D)(D+E)E 7°04.B(C+E)C). The inventor and entrepreneur is buried in the family's mausoleum. His company produced stationery; among other things he invented the hole-puncher. Close to the mausoleum you'll find Helene, died in 197J.

Bei 50°42.(B-D)(C+E)(C+A) 7°04.(B-D)C(C+C) is the portal of the Heilige Stiege, donated in 1746 by Kurfürst Clemens August. The number of red letters in the topmost row of the plate above the portal is K.

At the Bündniskapelle at 50°42.(B-D)C(B-E) 7°04.(B-D)A(C+C) you'll find three years. The digit appearing in the last two digits of all three years, is L.
