Im Rhenodanubischen Flysch

The Tour:

Start at the parking of the Kenzenhütte and follow the river Halblech upstream for approx. 5 km. Finally turn left on a dirt road and you will reach the geological site after approx. 600 m. In summer you can use the Kenzenbus bringing you to the Reiselsbergbrücke.
On your way back turn right approx. 300 m south of the Flysch. This panorama trail will provide gorgeous views on the mountains of the Ammergebirge! Finally follow again the river Halblech towards the cache and the parking.

All paths are suitable for cyclists (touring or MTB) and for strollers. The panorama trail has stronger ascents/decents. If you like it more convenient, simply follow back the same way you came (only very moderate inclines).

Remarks:

This cache is focussing on the beautiful landscape. On your way you will have to answer only 5 simple questions. For the single final calculation Stage5 will be a very nice place!

You are walking in the nature protection area Ammergebirge (which is the largest in Germany), therefore the cache may not be placed at the Flysch in the Röthenbachtal, but is located at the areas boundary.

At the Flysch you will find a bank to have your meal (there is no restaurant along the way!). At noon there is a wonderful sunshine (if it's not cloudy).

The cache can be found in winter. However, there should'nt be too much snow, because the paths will not be cleared of snow.

What does it mean: Flysch?

Flysch (swiss: float) is a special geological formation which was formed in the Cretaceous. Our formation was uncovered from the river Röthenbach near Halblech and has an age of about 85 mio years. It shows in an outstanding manner the rhythmic recurrence of sediment cycles. Due to tectonic movements they have been folded and are now partially standing in an upright position.
Flysch is found in many mountains all over the world. The so called Rhenodanubische Flysch is located in the transition zone of the alpes to their norhtern foreland.
