Description English (Anglais) · Italiano
The "Fonte di Lucullo" (literally Lucullus' Spring) is still one of the preferred places for many people, most of them living in the area. Even if the place is sadly almost abandoned, the mineral water that is coming out of the spring is really good and it is known for its properties.
The spring is located inside a home made cave that has been dated at the end of the I century a.C., during the emperor of Domiziano and it has been discovered by Pietro Cardinale, as reported in the plaque inside the cave.
Originally it was known as the "Bagnara", and the actual name is connected with the roman patricius Lucius Licinto Lucullus that during the I century b.C. supported the construction a magnificent hydraulics engineering work. It was, in fact, a huge tank divided into 4 sections that was used as a fish pond. The architect, Gneo Domizio Amando, wanted to build 2 different springs, one used for drinkable, the other one, not as clean, used for thermal installation.
When has the spring been discovered?
A photo of you (or your nickname) in front of the spring is much appreciated.
