Gotteshäuser - St. Peter & Paul Bardenberg

The first known written reference of Bardneberg is from the year 867, probably there was a wooden church at that time.
The first Romanesque stone church was built in the 10th century.
1818-1830 the church was in danger of collapsing and therefore replaced by a neoclassical church.

Today's late-Gothic church was built 1914-1926 by Father Franz Josef named Carl Hesseler, who is buried on the south side of the church under the Christ the King monument.

In 1944, the churchwas damaged by shell impacts and could not be used for 5 years.

In 1964 the cast iron bells, except the Barbara Bell, were replaced by bronze bells. The Barbara Bell was replaced in 1967 and may now be examined in front of the church.

In 1965 the spire was newly build, in 1968 the main entrance, and the tower was renovated between 1989 and 1992.

A new Wilbrand-organ was installed in 1995

Since 2003, St. Peter & Paul belonged to the community of communes Würselen (St. Balbina, St. Mary, St. Pius X, St. Sebastian and St. Peter & Paul), for 1 January 2010 the GDG and the GDG Würselen Broichweiden (St. Lucia, St. Nicholas and St. Wilibrord) merged to the new parish of St. Sebastian, now with a total of eight churches.
