Stara kapetanija u Zemunu

The old captain in Zemun is a stationary cultural asset located in Zemun , at Kej oslobođenja 8. It was built in 1908 . for the steam engine passenger station. The Government of Serbia has put the object under the protection of the state in 2013. 

The building was erected in 1908. and served as a steamboat passenger station. It was created according to the plans of the Vienna architect Remel. It is a terraced, elongated building, symmetrically composed in a postseason spirit with simplified decoration. A higher volume and a double broken roof mark the central part of the building from which the long wings evolved. The roof is covered with plates that appeared at the Old Captain's Office for the first time in Zemun. it is conceived as a free pavilion with arcades towards the coast. The arcades to the Danube were closed over time.It is  the older ship office building that is preserved.

Since 1985. the art gallery "Stara kapetanija" is located in the building . It is the seat of the Association of Fine and Applied Artists of Zemun, which now has over one hundred and fifty members. The old captain is the seat of the artistic life of the city of Belgrade in the last three decades.
