The straightening of the waterside of the river Saale, on the Calbe side, in 1880 results in a wide promenade with extensive tree and bush plantings.
The Goethe springs is southern close to the Schiller memorial stone.
Also Till Eulenspiegel did spend his youth there. But this area was undiscovered to this time.
The memorial stone of Goethe with the Goethe spring was build in 1907 and it shows the medallion of Goethe. In the substraction of the stone arrangement is located a head of a lion.
Unfortunately you will not find outcomming water from the mouth of the lion.Sorry.

At the above coordinates you will find a parking place. This is the starting point of foot path And the name is Verschönerungsweg. Follow this foot path upstream of the river Saale.
In about 20 minutes or after 1.2 km you will arrive at the Goethe spring.
But during your walk you have to keep an eye on some special hints to find the cache.
