Panorama Trail

The trail and the farm track through the woods and along the border of the woods are about 3.8 km. The
cache - search is designed as a loop.
The trail can be visited at each time of the year, a minimum of hiking experience should be provided. Especially kids will be enthused about this trail.

The parking site at N 50° 54.839’ E009° 45.378’ is directly at the start of the not trafficable trail course.

This trail was and is obtained by the citizens of the small nearby village, mountain bikes are not liked on the trail, so, please, go searching only by foot.

The loop track passes eight stations for reaching the final cache. Because of the extreme hillside situation, the GPS – signals are very fragile, sometimes there is no signal to be received. So the coordinates of the eight stations are not very accurate, but with “open eyes” you should be able to identify every “object”.
Until station #6 you are always going south, leaving #6 you have to walk always north. At the cache itself you will have an adequate GPS – signal strength and quality.


1. Station:

The coordinates of the first station are the already given N 50° 54.817’ E009° 45.414’ .
The “object” which must be found is a landmark (stone). The numerals on the landmark must be assigned to the letters A, B and C. (Example: If the numerals are 435 it follows that A=4, B=3 und C=5).


2. Station:

The coordinates of the station #2 are determined by:

N 50° 54.030’ + (ABC) E009° 45.131’ + (ABC)

Example: if A=4, B=3, C=5, then:
North coordinate = N 50° 54.030’ + 435 = N 50° 54.465’,
East coordinate = E009° 45.131’ + 435 = E009° 45.566’ )

At the designation you will find an „object“ with a wooden sign. The numerals of the only date on this board must be assigned to the letters D and E as follows: D = third numeral of the 4 – digit date , E = fourth numeral of the 4-digit date from the wooden board. The summation of the four numerals from the date will give you the value of F.

(Example: if the date = 1912 it follows that D = 1, E = 2 and F = 1+9+1+2 = 13)


3. Station:

With the summation of the four numerals of station #2 you must calculate the coordinate of stage #3 as follows: N 50° 54.485’ – F, E009° 45.604’ + F

(Example: if F = 13, then:
North coordinate = N 50° 54.485’ - 13 = N 50° 54.472’
East coordinate = E009° 45.604’ + 13 = E009° 45.617’ )

At stage #3 you will find an „object“ with a German “given name” on. The single letters of the „given name“ at stage #3 must be numbered in alphabetic order. So, for letter
a = 1, b = 2, c=3, d=4, … and so on.
The number of the fourth letter will give you the value of G, the number related to the fifth letter of the „given name“ will define the value of H.

(Example: German „given name“: „August“, then the the corresponding number are: A = 1, u = 21, g = 7, u = 21, s = 19, t = 20
The fourth letter in the “given name” is „g“, so the value of G = 21, the fifth letter is „s“, so the value of
H = 19)


4. Station:

By the located values of G and H from station #3 the coordinates of stage #4 can be calculated as follows: N 50° 54.240’ – G E009° 45.576’ + H

(Example: if G=7, H=19, then:
North coordinate N 50° 54.240’ – 7 = N 50° 54.233’
East coordinate E009° 45.576’ + 19 = E009° 45.595’ )

The quantity of letters of the „object“ at stage #4 will define the value of I
(Example: „objects – label“ = „BRÜCKE“ ,the count of the letters will be = 6 so the value of I = 6)


5. Station:

The coordinates of stage #6 are determined as follows:
N 50° 54.101’ + I E009° 45.600’ – G

The summation of the letters at the label on the„object“ at stage #5 will give the value of J.


6. Station:

The coordinates of this designation are: N 50° 53.(J * 192)’ E009° 45.(J * 117)’

(Example: if J = 2, then:
North coordinate N 50° 53.(2 * 192)’ = N 50° 53.384’
East coordinate E009° 45.(J * 117)’ = E009° 45.234’

At the “object“ at this position you will find one number only (one digit). This digit is the value of K.

NOTICE: From this position it's only about 1,1km to Bayer's "Memorial Site" (GCJWRE)


7. Station:

The coordinates of stage #7 are defined as follows: N 50° 54.(483 / K)’ E009° 45.(EKC – G)’

(Example: if F=1, K=7, C=3, G=4, then:
North coordinate: N 50° 54.(483 / 7)’ = N 50° 54.069’
East coordinate: E009° 45.173’ – 4 = E009° 45.169’ )

At the information board found at stage #7 is a 4-digit date. The first numeral of the date gives the value of L, the second numeral gives the value of M and the third numeral the value of N.


8. Station:

The coordinates of station #8 are defined by:
N 50° 54.( 340 – J - N )’ E009° 45.( 558 – M )’

The “object” at the designation is a landmark of the same type as at stage #1. The number on the landmark will give you the last value you need to calculate the final cache position now.

The summation of all the digits on this landmark gives the value of O.


The final – the cache

And now, at last, finished, ready fort he finale – the cache - coordinates:

N 50° 54.(G-O) (M) (N-K)’ 009° 45.(O - J) (A + K ) (E - L)’

(Example:
if:
G = 9, O = 7, M = 6, N = 4, K = 2, J = 1, A = 2, E = 11, L = 3
Then:
N 50° 54.(9-7) 6 (4-2)’ = N 50° 54.262’
E009° 45.(7-1) (2+2) (11-3)’ = E009° 45.649’

The cache – box dimensions are: 180 x 180 x 80mm, the box contains:
- Cache –log, pencil, sharpener and notes about geo-caching, this stays in the cache
- a cutter - knife
- 10 cable ties
- a spinner
- a whistle
- 5 pin - board nails
- a key – fob
- a snap hook
- a candle
- a lighter
- a certificate for the first finder
