This fountain was inaugurated in 1906 and commemorates those who died on 15 June 1904 on board the excursion steamer "General Slocum". Before September 11, 2001, the General Slocum fire had the highest death toll in New York history. The incident claimed a large part of the Lower East Side community known as Little Germany and is the worst peacetime tragedy on the water in the history of the nation.

Zugang zur Zeit aufgrund von Bauarbeiten nicht möglich.Das Gebäude wird renoviert und dieser Teil des Parks wurde dafür abgesperrt.

Anmerkung : Ich signiere das Logbook nicht zwingend chronologisch, sondern nutze freie Stellen die ich vorfinde.Es kommt immer wieder vor,dass ganze Seiten/Zeilen leer gelassen wurden,wodurch dem Cacheowner ein völlig unnötiger Mehraufwand in der Cachepflege entsteht. Sollte ich also nicht hinten zu finden sein,dann steh ich irgendwo früher drin.Versprochen!
