Shrike

In the Garden of Rememberance is a plaque remembering Ted Prior who was a scoutmaster at the Henley scout troop in the 1980's. In Scouting the adults take on a "Scout name" which is used to reduce the formality for the scouts. Ted Prior's scout name was "Shrike"

There is onle little mistake on the plaque...
The name of Ted's house was "Shrikes Loft" (from his Scouting name) and not Squire's loft!

Scouting

Scouts is an organisation for the development of the youth and geocaching is a hobby well suited to cubs and scouts because it involves some important life skills:

• Mapwork - developing your geospacial skills and sense of direction - still needed even in the days of GPS,
• Observation - good geocachers have keen observation skills and are able to spotsomething that is a little out of order,
• Outdoors - Getting up and out! There is nothing better to do to prevent boredom... get outdoors!
• Challenge - You learn best when we are forced to think.
