THE CRAFT

This geocache leads you to a place located at the southwestern border of the Bulgarian Pirin Mountains. Melnik as an very interesting place seen from historic and touristic angle is only a few minutes away. Despite its only 275 residents, Melnik calls itself for historic reasons a town instead of village.

On wikipedia the occupation of a cellarman is described as follows: Winemaking or vinification, is the production of wine, starting with selection of the grapes or other produce and ending with bottling the finished wine. Although most wine is made from grapes, it may also be made from other fruits or plants. The science of wine and winemaking is known as oenology. A person who makes wine is traditionally called a winemaker or vintner. They are generally employed by wineries or wine companies, where their work includes:

- Cooperating with viticulturists
- Monitoring the maturity of grapes to ensure their quality and to determine the correct time for harvest
- Crushing and pressing grapes
- Monitoring the settling of juice and the fermentation of grape material
- Filtering the wine to remove remaining solids
- Testing the quality of wine by tasting
- Placing filtered wine in casks or tanks for storage and maturation
- Preparing plans for bottling wine once it has matured
- Making sure that quality is maintained when the wine is bottled

Today, these duties require an increasing amount of scientific knowledge, since laboratory tests are gradually supplementing or replacing traditional methods. THE CACHE

The container is hidden on the ground of a local wine cellar. It is possible to search and find the box at any time, even outside business hours. Wine cellar´s property needs not to be entered to search the cache. There is enough space in the container for trackables, goodies and a pen. We will not tell more about the hidden place, in case consider the spoiler picture. The owner of the wine cellar and his staff cares for the cache, thus continuing maintenance is guaranteed. Please watch out for muggels like other visitors of the wine cellar, who could discover the hidden place.

Of course the wine cellar and its owner appreciates any visitor since you can get insider information concerning the occupation of the winemaker and about the production of various local and regional wines. Furthermore it is possible to participate in a wine tasting including degustating the delicious wines.
