This is a webcam cache near by the telescopes of Palma.
When I was at the coordinates a few days ago I missed a cache. I am not there often (may be only every few years). So a traditional cache (with cachebox and logbook) is not possible. But why I shouldn’t use things at this place.
There is a lifestream webcam. This is good to use as a “logbook”. Store the picture of the webcam and send it with your log entry.
!! But be careful. If you use a mobile phone to get connection to the internet it will be very expensive if you don’t have a spain provider.
The best way will be to ask somebody to save the picture of the webcam.
There is a additional place of interests at and near by N 28 45.27 und W 17 53.10. This will take further 15min for the one way trip from MAGIC I to there.
!!! A few additional important things:
- Its o.k. if you look around. But NEVER cross a fence or a borderline. (if the telescope with the about 70 tons is moving you can get killed if you stay inside the borderlines.)
- Its also o.k. if you ask the scientists about the telescope. But don’t be boring. As far as I know there is also a leaded trip to see the MAGIC I telescope. I think this trip is starting at the airport – but I am not sure.
- Never switch on a bright light in the evening or the night. This could disturb the telescope. There is also a law to prevent from light pollution. Don’t be more shiny as a glow-worm. Excepted is the time of full moon. The telescopes are not working for this day.
Up on the mountain is also a hotel if you like to stay for a longer time. This will cost about 50€/night without TV, Radio, Breakfast. This only for information – there is no need to stay overnight.
The time you need to go from the airport to the webcam cache is about 3h (without a visit at the Muchachos (Top of the mountain at about 2450m)). You can use a rental car or go by a bus trip.
A few additional words for the description:
There is no further street that has more curves, has a higher attitude (about 2450m from the airport to the Muchachos) as the street to this place. The one way trip will take about 1,5h. It’s possible that there lay some stones and/or rocks on the street – so be careful.
You will need a lot to drink. I took about 5l/day while I was working there. You can not buy anything to drink or eat there. Take everything you will need with you.
There is also a archive from the webcam pictures available in the internet. So that there should be a automatic picture of your visit if you stay about 30min there.
Take enough to drink and sun protection. Over the cloud you will have sun – everytime.

On our way up to the Roque de Los Muchachos we were stunned when suddenly the Magic telescopes came into view. On the way back we decided to take a closer look at the giant mirrors, and we were pleased to find the OC webcam here. We had to figure out how to get to the right spot and then waited a few minutes; the cam shoots a pic every ten minutes. So there we are, right in front of the telescope!

Was für ein beeindruckender Ort. Ringsherum wird gebaut. Es entstehen wohl noch mehr Geräte, die das All beobachten. Danke für's Herlocken.
