Hochwechsel

Am Trainingsplan stand wieder mal ein schönes langes Läufchen. Geworden sinds knapp 35 km, zu Zweit, kreuz und quer, von Mönichkirchen zum Semmering. Dabei hab ich auch ein paar Döschen besucht, da war auch diese dabei.

Gefunden hab ich sie sofort, ich geb zu, ich hatte sie schon vor langer Zeit auf GC besucht.

Die Dose und ihr gesamter Inhalt hat den letzten Winter sehr gut überstanden.

Cachen, nein danke, AnnaMoritz and myseld did not start in Moenichkirchen as suggested in the cache description, but at the Steyersberger Schwaig which allowed us to sleep longer and to start late.
From this side hiking up the Hochwechsel was very relaxing. Before heading for the cache which AnnaMoritz has found already some time ago, we had a break in the Wetterkoglerhaus. The waitress there was not very friendly. Somehow the atmosphere in many mountain huts has changed considerably since my youth time.
As it took some time until we could pick up the ordered food, I found time to visit the remarkable chapel at the Hochwechsel (visit link) which was built in 1965 and consecrated on August 15, 1966. I have not been aware before that Franz Weiss (visit link) has been involved in the art work for this chapel as well. I really like his sacral works, but also many of his profane works.

After our break AnnaMoritz and myself were eager to head for the Niederwechsel even though it was already relatively late. Cachen nein danke agreed after some moments of hesitation, but then decided not to wait for us as he expected already that we would take some time to find this cache.

From some distance we saw three people at the cache location, but that cannot have been the previous finders as the people walked into the other direction and not towards the Feistritzsattel. After searching around for a while AnnaMoritz finally found the cache. It was not easy to identify the location and the fact that I could hardly see the spoiler picture on the display of AnnaMoritz's smartphone due to the sun did not made things easier. The cache is in good condition, but there was no TB in it.

From the cache we continued further on to the Niederwechsel. Thank you for providing with a cache that will always remind me of my visit to the summit of the Hochwechsel. The route we chose allowed me to experience the spirit of mountains, but in a very knee friendly many without having to resort to the last alternative, i.e. driving up the toll road to the Wetterkoglerhaus. I hope that I still have many years ahead where I will be able to go for moderate hikes in the mountains. Hopefully, I will get the chance to revisit the Hochwechsel again at a later time - maybe then from the direction of Moenichkirchen. A friend told me years ago that the Steinerne Stiege is a worth a visit.

All in all we spent a very nice day in the Hochwechsel region.

PS: The T-rating 3.5* seems to be exxagerated.

Nachlog GC

Das war keine g'mahte Wiesn. Zielstrebig näherten wir uns den Koordinaten und schauten uns um. Nix, was sich aufdrängt. Nach einiger Zeit schaute ich in den Hint. Also hintgemäß weitergesucht. Nix. Großräumig von der anderen Seite ein neuerlicher Anlauf mit teils gewagten Klettereien auf der Hinterseite, ist ja D3,5. Nix. Zum Glück fand dann MoritzRabe doch noch die Dose. Merkzettel für's nächste Mal: unbedingt Spoilerbild mitnehmen, ich hätte die Dose in den 150m2 Steinen, Felsen, Steinhaufen an dieser Stelle ohne MoritzRabe ziemlich wahrscheinlich nicht gefunden. Jedes Mal wenn ich am Hochwechsel bin, dann pfeift mir der Wind um die Ohren, Dafür war heute eine super Fernsicht. THX, Sterau
