The Surrounding Area

This cache is a little bit related to Nuremberg Underground, because it features again public transportation: the tram. And the tram route 7 is the oldest underground in Nuremberg, because it drives below the surface between the stations Tristanstraße and Bayernstraße.

You can see the reason for this, if you leave the tram at the station Tristanstraße and walk on in the same direction or if you drive along the Frankenstraße. You will see the main building of the former SS barracks. Because of this building the Frankenstraße was moved north and the tram went underground. Now the Federal Administration for Asylum and Migration uses the left and middle part of the building and the customs the right part. You can find further information on the building online (German only. I asked them about an English translation. They're working on it, but it's not ready yet.) and on a info sign at N 49°25.861' E 11°05.873'.

Until the real subway was build the tram didn't end here, but drove on to Langwasser. You can still see the rails, until they end at a gate. Two big tubes are using this tunnel now.

If you walk along the still used rails you will see two concrete blocks on both sides of the track. I don't know their former use. I suspect them to be a foundation for a welcome-arc during the Reichsparteitage.

The container is a small box. Easy to find, but perhaps difficult to get at. (Tram frequency!)
