Verloren und Vergessen - Einsiedelei Eggenberg

In the past the hermitage ("Einsiedelei") behind the "Schloss Eggenberg" was a popular place of excursions, especially on hot days. After short ascent near impressive mansions (today: Picture - has also seen better times) via a nice shadowy forest path the destination was reached and one could enjoy its surroundings by sitting down on one of the many benches. A special highlight of this place was a small stalactite cave, which wasn't only interesting for children but also for adults as it was an additional cool spot on hot summer days. Sportive people continued uphill to the "Fürstenstand" on Plabutsch.

Today nearly nothing reminds of the past beauty of this place. A few remains of the foundation with a not very inviting sign are everything which remained - besides the name of the path that leads to this place. Nevertheless one can imagine the history of this place by careful observation of its surroundings - inscriptions on trees or tree-mounted objects which look like they grew together with the trees.
Unfortunately it's quite difficult to find more information about this place and its history. If you know anything please contact me. About the nearby spring ("Einsiedeleiquelle") it's being said that it has its source in a 80 meter long tunnel (or cave?) that also contains a two meter high cascade. In the past the idea was brought up to make this cave ("Einsiedeleihöhle") accessible to the public together with other activities in the Plabutsch region but it looks like this fell into oblivion - just like the hermitage itself..
If one follows the path near the cache for a few meters one can reach a place that offers a nice view over Graz (at N47°04.709 E015°23.059). Additionally this place - that looks like an old overgrown garden - seems to be the playground of some kids who can really enjoy their childhood.
After visiting this cache there exists the possibility of a small walk around the Gaisberg (German) or uphill to the "Fürstenstand" on Plabutsch. This marked trail turns left a few meters before the cache location and then leads uphill along a gas pipe trench (UKH/LKH Graz West).
