Poms Wasserfall

Kontrollbesuch und Korrektur der Cachebeschriftung. Hab Wegpunkte fuer die Großhöllerhütte und den Zugang zum Wasserfall angelegt und hab den Wasserfall peinlicherweise diesmal zum ersten mal genauer in Augenschein nehmen koennen. Auch einen Hint eingefuegt und sowohl das Originale als auch ein neues hilfreicheres Spoilerbild zusaetzlich in die Beschreibung aufgenommen. Ich hab den Cache ja adoptiert und konnte bei meinem ersten Besuch nicht viel mit dem Originalbild anfangen.

Mit etwas Verspaetung hat nun die Adoption geklappt und der Cache wartet mit neuer Dose auch wieder auf OC Besucher.

Dass der Cache bereits auf OC vorhanden war, ist mir entgangen (er war seit Jaenner 2017 archiviert). Ich wollte ihn jedenfalls auch auf OC veroeffentlichen und deshab ist in der von mir ausgelegten Stashnote derzeit ein falscher (weil neuer) OC-Code eingetragen. Das werde ich beim naechsten Besuch korrigieren.

New Box, new Owner

Ich musste meinen eigenen Cache am Speik warten und wollte dabei endlich auch diesen Cache besuchen. Hab 2010 schon einmal den Wasserfall ueber diesen recht anspruchsvollen Abstieg beim Koralpenschutzhaus in Angriff genommen, konnte damals aber wegen meiner schon etwas ungeduldigen Begleitung den Cache nicht heben. Heute (mit zum Glueck geduldigerer Begleitung  ) hat mich die Beschreibung wieder irritiert und ich bin schliesslich von oben zum Versteckplatz gelangt bei dem doch die Koordinaten genau gepasst haben und der tatsaechlich nur 15m vom Weg im anspruchsvollen Gelaende liegt. Hab in vorheriger Absprache mit dem Owner eine neue kleine Box mit neuem Logbuch ausgelegt. Die (eigentlich fast kleinere Original-Box) war wie erwartet voellig durchnaesst aber sonst in recht gutem Zustand. Auch der Ersatzpettling befand sich in der Dose, das Originallogbuch leider nicht mehr.
Dann wollte ich meine Begleitung nicht laenger warten lassen und wir haben den steilen Anstieg zur Grosshoellerhuette genommen und sind ueber die Baerentalhuette wieder zum unteren Parkplatz marschiert. Den eigentlich recht beeindruckenden Wasserfall wieder nur von der Strasse aus bewundert. Den muss ich mir aber beim naechsten mal genauer ansehen. Einen einfachen Zugang scheint es ja nicht zu geben. Thanx, no trade.
P.S.: Bei der Anfrage ob ich die Dose warten soll hat der Owner abgelehnt aber mir angeboten die Dose zu adoptieren. Weil man die Gegend nicht den #-Legern ueberlassen darf  hab ich also eine neue Dose ausgelegt und wenn alles klappt werde ich in Kuerze der neue Owner sein.

Dieser Cache ist seit mehr als 6 Monaten „momentan nicht verfügbar“; daher wird er automatisch archiviert. Er kann vom Besitzer jederzeit instand gesetzt und reaktiviert werden.

Von der Weinebene her, wars eine schöne Wanderung, und beim Wasserfall selbst waren doch recht viele Leute da. Ein tolles kleines Ding... Wieder mal was wo ich ohne Cache nicht hergekommen wäre [;)]! Der Cache liegt ja zum Glück etwas abseits und konnte mit der Beschreibung sehr gut gefunden werden. tftc

This cache was my main target for today.Thanks to the additional information I obtained from the hider (thank you again!), I knew that t might have a chance to reach the cache.

Fortunately the parking lot at the Weinebene is very large as I started later than intended and arrived in the late morning at the Weinebene. I took the same approach as the hider. The way to the Grillitschhut was already known to me from my visit to the cache Speik about two years ago. This part of the hike is very easy which has the negative effect that one meets millions of people at nice days like today. On my way to the Grosshoeller hut I realized that the waypoint has been cut off on the printer-friendly printout (most probably due to the picture and for sure due to the inability of Groundspeak of offering a properly working manner to create printouts of cache descriptions), but due to the many signposts and markings I fortunately did not need this waypoint.

After the second hut the hike became more interesting and more quiet as much less people were around. Most of the people in the area spent their time in one of the huts and apparently did not want to go down to the waterfall (probably as this means that they have to go up again as well - at least this was the argument of a group to refrain from going down which I happened to listen to). While the last part of the trail to the waterfall and the cache area is more challenging than the kind of forest motorway leading up from the Weinebene, a rating of 2.5* or at most 3* would suffice to rate the terrain difficulty of this cache in case the last few meters would not exist.

At first I misinterpreted the cache description and left the trail too late (at a location which more seemed like a meadow to me). I realized my mistake soon and went back. Despite that the fact that target area looks differently in reality than on the spoiler photograph, I did not have troubles to identify the hideout. It was, however, not easy for me to reach the hideout. The rock was wet and slippery and the last two steps were difficult for me. I would not want to visit this cache in Winter time. Hopefully, the cache container will well survive the Winter time and wet periods. Today water was dropping down from above, but the cache is still in good condition. Unfortunately, I had very dirty fingers after having reached the cache and so the log book also got dirty as I was standing very badly at the cache location and was not able to clean my fingers there.

After having logged the cache, I went to see the waterfall. It is comparatively
small (in particular when comparing it to waterfalls like the Riesach waterfall which I have visited a few months ago), but very nice and definitely worth to be visited. After a short break for taking some photographs I went back to the Weinebene parking lot. It was a very nice hike and the weather was gorgeous today.

Thank you very much for showing me this nice place I have not had heard before seeing this cache. I like caches like this one even if I would have preferred a hideout which is a bit easier to reach for cachers like me and thus allowing visits also when the weather and ground conditons are worse than today.

This cache definitely deserves much more visitors than it got so far. Do not be scared away by the high terrain rating. With the exception of the last two meters to the cache, it is an easy hike and the last two meters can also be accomplished by cachers like myself who are no outdoor experts at all.

I did not leave any travellers in this cache for two reasons. First of all, I would have had troubles to handle travellers at the hideout as I was standing there in stable way and second, I do not know whether the cache will get further visitors before the Winter.
