Gaswerk Augsburg / Gasworks Augsburg DE/EN

The former (historic) gas works Augsburg-Oberhausen
 
The Augsburg gas works were put into operation in 1915 in the Augsburg district of Oberhausen.
Here until 1968, the gas for Augsburg was produced from hard coal and stored until 2001 natural gas.
Since 2001, the entire gasworks with the gasholders has been shut down.
The Gaswerk stands with all its buildings under monument or ensemble protection and is now unique in its kind in Europe.
 
From April to October, free tours of the Gas works take place every third Sunday of the month at 1pm.
In good weather, you can also climb with a guided group on the 84 -meter-high disc gasholder.
The brave ones can also be roped off from a height of about 80m at certain times.
This is organized by the association Gaswerksfreunde Augsburg e.V. and Stadtwerke Augsburg.

To the cache:
The cache is located on the site of the former gas works.
The steward (and caretaker) of the area and most of the residents know that two geocaches are hidden here. So you are allowed to dare.
The area is now public and may be entered.
 
Access options:
Park best on the street and go over the right door next to the closed factory gate into the gas works.
 
Actually clear, but still the hint:
No barriers and fencing may be bypassed.
 
Should you join a guided tour or visit the Gaswerksmuseum ask for "Oli", maybe I am your guide or at least on site and if I have some time, I can show you this or that here.
