| The Watertower The 35 m high and 8 m wide tower was built in 1917 to supply water to the 'Rheinmetall Borsig AG', which had emerged from the former 'Dreysesche Eisenwaren- bzw. Gewehrfabrik' (1816 - 1889) in 1901. The tower was in operation until 1996 and ensured the water supply for the industrial park Sömmerda, which was built in 1992. After its close-down the tower was rehabilitated. The plan was to establish an traditional technical museum inside. (In the 1920s to 1945 the first Thuringian industrial museum, founded by Bruno Kronbiegel-Collenbusch, was opened in Sömmerda.) Unfortunately the museum project could not be realized due to structural reasons in the tower. Instead it found its place in the Dreyse building in 2005. The water tower, however, is becoming more and more a landmark of the city Sömmerda. As one of 15 stations the water tower is part of the culture trail 'Industrial Park Sömmerda' dedicated in 2003 and can be visited from outside. This culture trail was initiated by the Museum Association Sömmerda and is part of the museum landscape." (source) |

Die alte Dose wurde mal wieder entwendet. Daher gibt es nun ein neues Versteck ein paar Meter weiter.

Nachdem wir in E. einen kleinen Auftrag erledigt hatten, widmeten wir den Rest des Tages dem schönen Städtchen Sömmerda, und schauten uns dabei inspiriert durch einige Caches alles genau an. Hier machten wir eine kleine Rast und nebenbei loggten wir. DfdC!
