A view of the Herzog August Library, also known as the Bibliotheca Augusta.

Herzog August Bibliothek

The Herzog August Library is an internationally known library, the old stock from the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period makes it an important research center for the culture of this time.
A prominent piece of library is the book of Henry the Lion (from 1174 to 1189), the most expensive book of his time. Other thousands of old manuscripts, incunabula, old prints and globes complete the collection.

The Herzogliche Bibliothek was founded in the residence town of Wolfenbüttel by Duke Julius zu Braunschweig-Lüneburg (1528-1589). In the 17th century, the library was regarded as the world's eighth wonder, as it was the largest library north of the Alps.

From 1691 to 1716, universal scholar Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz was a librarian. Leibniz created the first alphabetical catalog and enlarged the collections (including the Gudic manuscripts).

Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (1770 until his death in 1781) is responsible to the fact that numerous books, which were stored in the library, came to the public. E.g. the only manuscript of the chief work of Berengar of Tours: Rescriptum contra Lanfrancum and the tribal tablet of the sons of Adam Tarich Beni Adam. Lessing wrote his last work "Nathan the Wise" during his time in Wolfenbüttel. The house where he spent the last years of his life bears his name.

And even on that house (see waypoint and spoiler picture) is a sign.

Add the individual numbers. The result (in ciphers) is the log password.

You are welcome to add a picture of the library, which is worth a visit (entrance fee is 5 € for adults).

Further information on the library can be found at Wikipedia and on the official website.
