Description Deutsch · English (Anglais)
Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the oldest and the largest national parks in Croatia. The national park was founded in 1949 and since 1979 it is listed as UNESCO World Heritage. That this is a special, worth protecting scenery, you'll quickly realize when visiting the park.
One of the many attractions of the park is the Big Waterfall (Veliki Slap). With 78m it is the highest waterfall in the national park of Plitvice and even in Croatia. The difference between the Big Waterfall and the other, smaller waterfalls in the park is based on their origins. While waterfalls of the 16 lakes originate from the height difference of the lakes and overfilling of the upper lakes, the source of the Big waterfall is the river Plitvice. (source: plitvicer-seen.com)
Unfortunately the path to the Big Waterfall is not wheelchair accessible, at least if you want to see it from the lower and well-known spot. If you nevertheless want to take a look at it please park your car at the second parking waypoint and take an accompanying person with you (this path is also not completely free of obstacles). From waypoint "viewpoint on top of the hill" you can watch the waters fall and take a photo for your log.
My recommendations for a visit of the park:
Especially in the summer months the park is very crowded. Try to visit it in the very morning, right after the park opens. In the first 1 to 1,5 hours you'll be one of few visitors. Later than that more and more visitors will fill the park
An alternative is to plan your visit in low season. Also in spring or autumn the park features its own, saisonal flair. Usually this is true also in winter time, but depending on weather conditions not all paths will be accessible.
Last not least use side trails. Those are less crowded and offer fantastic views over the lakes here and there. With enough time and lust for hiking the public part of the national park can be visited within one day. If you like it more relaxed you can buy a 2-day-ticket.
Logging the cache:
To log this cache you have to fulfill one task:
Go to the Big Waterfall and take a picture of you or your GPS or one of your personal belongings, that was shot in front of waterfall. Attach this picture to your log entry. (Of course you may add more pictures of the beautiful park. :)
Enjoy your visit!

Mal was anderes. Der Wasserfall von oben. Diese Perspektive werden die wenigsten haben. Ein Besuch aus Richtung Eingang 3 ist sehr lohnenswert.
Angenehmer Nebeneffekt: kostet keinen Eintritt. Das hilft sparen! Danke fürs Zeigen.

Liebe/r fraggle_DE,

Cache 16287 - Found on 22.08.2024 at 12:57
This year's
summer holiday trip led us to Croatia, where we spent a week touring all over
the place. Today was the sixth day of our stay, which we spent visiting
Plitvicka Jezera National Park. I had never heard of this park before, but it
was known to my wife. The three-hour drive from our home was well spent because
the park was so beautiful.
I've attached the required photo 📷 to this
log ✍.
Thanks for this cache and stay healthy 🦠😷 wishes
