Casa Creativa

Hermigua ist eine der sechs Gemeinden der Kanareninsel La Gomera. Sie liegt im Nordosten der Insel. Hermigua ist gleichzeitig Name des Verwaltungssitzes.

Das Tal Hermigua wurde schon von den Gomeros (Altkanarier) bewohnt. Bei ihnen gehörte es zum Gebiet der Mulagua. Der Ursprung der Gemeinde Hermigua liegt im 16. Jahrhundert, als der Ortsteil Valle Alto entstand.

Hermigua gilt als das wasserreichste Tal La Gomeras und wird ganzjährig vom Rio del Cedro versorgt. Deshalb lebt Hermigua neben wenig Tourismus hauptsächlich von Landwirtschaft. Die meist sonnige Seite des Tales wurde bis zum höchsten noch bewässerbaren Niveau terrassiert. Hier werden unter anderem Kartoffeln, Papayas, Bananen, Getreide, Hülsenfrüchte, Kürbisse, Bohnen und Trauben angebaut.

Der Nationalpark Garajonay, der zum Teil auch zur Gemeinde Hermigua gehört, liegt sechs Kilometer südwestlich des Zentrums von Hermigua.

Interessante Orte sind unter Anderem die ehemalige Verschiffungsstelle (mit La Piscina - ehemaliges Bananenwaschbecken und heutiges Meerwasserschwimmbecken) sowie das Wahrzeichen des Ortes, der charakteristische Zwillingsfelsen Roques de San Pedro, ein alter Vulkanschlot bei Monteforte.

Im unteren Teil des Tales befindet sich an der Hauptstrasse das beliebte Terrassencafe Casa Creativa, das einen tollen Blick über das Tal und weit über das Meer bietet. Hier haben wir so manches Mal eine Pause beim Erkunden der Insel eingelegt.

El valle de Hermigua ya estaba habitado por los gomeros (viejos canarios). Para ellos, pertenecía al territorio de los Mulagua. El origen del municipio de Hermigua se remonta al siglo XVI, cuando se creó el distrito de Valle Alto.

Hermigua es considerado el valle más rico en agua de La Gomera y es abastecido por el Río del Cedro durante todo el año. Por lo tanto, Hermigua vive principalmente de la agricultura además de poco turismo. El lado mayormente soleado del valle ha sido aterrazado hasta el nivel más alto que aún se puede irrigar. Aquí se cultivan papas, papayas, plátanos, granos, legumbres, calabazas, frijoles y uvas, entre otras cosas.

El Parque Nacional de Garajonay, que también pertenece al municipio de Hermigua, está situado a seis kilómetros al suroeste del centro de Hermigua.

Los lugares interesantes incluyen el antiguo punto de embarque (con La Piscina, antiguo sumidero de plátanos y la actual piscina de agua de mar) y el punto de referencia de la ciudad, la característica roca gemela Roques de San Pedro, un antiguo respiradero volcánico cerca de Monteforte.

En la parte baja del valle, en la carretera principal, se encuentra la popular cafetería con terraza Casa Creativa, que ofrece una gran vista sobre el valle y sobre el mar. Aquí nos hemos tomado un descanso muchas veces mientras exploramos la isla.

Hermigua is one of the six communities of the Canary Island of La Gomera. It is located in the northeast of the island. Hermigua is also the name of the administrative seat.

The Hermigua Valley was already inhabited by the Gomeros (Old Canarians). For them, it belonged to the territory of the Mulagua. The origin of the municipality of Hermigua dates back to the 16th century, when the district of Valle Alto was created.

Hermigua is considered the most water-rich valley in La Gomera and is supplied by the Rio del Cedro all year round. Therefore, Hermigua lives mainly from agriculture in addition to little tourism. The mostly sunny side of the valley has been terraced to the highest level that can still be irrigated. Potatoes, papayas, bananas, grains, legumes, pumpkins, beans and grapes, among other things, are grown here.

Garajonay National Park, which also belongs to the municipality of Hermigua, is located six kilometres southwest of the centre of Hermigua.

Interesting places include the former shipping point (with La Piscina - former banana sink and today's seawater swimming pool) and the town's landmark, the characteristic twin rock Roques de San Pedro, an old volcanic vent near Monteforte.

In the lower part of the valley on the main road is the popular terrace café Casa Creativa, which offers a great view over the valley and far over the sea. Here we have taken a break many a time while exploring the island.
