Lagarfljótsormurinn - The Lagarfljót Wyrm

Not only at Loch Ness does a monster live since ancient times - also in the Lagarfljót. The oldest reports of the Lagarfljótsormurinn date as early as 1345, and the chain of sightings hasn't ended ever since. The monster usually is described as a huge sea serpent, between 10 and 90 metres long.

Your task:

Visit the wyrm in its natural habitat.

To log this virtual cache, you have two possibilities:

If you have a bit of time and feel creative:

Find the wyrm and take a photo of him! How you do that, is your choice. If the real wyrm hides from you, you may paint or draw your own one, or build one from driftwood, or knit a cuddleworm from icelandic wool (no wool available? Nettó has a well-stocked wool department), or... well, think of something.

Then take a photo of your wyrm somewhere at the lake and upload it with your log. Please remember, that the wyrm lives in the lake and doesn't like to go far. Thus your photo must be taken at the shore of Lake Lagarfljót and show the lake in the background.

If you are in a hurry or feel absolutely uncreative:

Sad, but you may still log the cache. Just stand on the bridge (somewhere close to the listing coordinates) and take a photo of the lake together with your GPS or some other personal item, whether it includes the wyrm or not. If you pass the spot on a vehicle you can't stop and leave for the photo (e.g. on a public bus), a photo taken through the window while passing the bridge will do provided it shows the lake. However, really visiting the spot is highly preferred to just passing it.

In any case, upload the photo with your log.

Getting there:

By car: The coordinates are located directly at the ring road N1. You can park at both ends of the bridge. Please do not stop on the bridge.

By bus: The nearby bus stop Fellabær Olis is served by the free-of-charge municipal bus line from Egilsstaðir and by the Stræto long distance buses to and from Akureyri. Regional buses operated by SVAust sporadically serve the airport.
